Located in the east of the Saône-et-Loire , Bresse from the Burgundy
region is served by a good road and motorway network :

Bresse from the Burgundy region is a large undulating valley scattered
with fields, forests and ponds in which fishermen can fish carp, pike,
white fish, pikeperch, black bass or silurid. It is crossed by the river
Seille which is navigable for 39kms, between the towns of Louhans and la
Truchère.
There are 850 kms of marked footpaths which in the region and offer
endless itineraries taking in all the rich rural crafts (the chair
makers of Rancy or the traditional cabinetmakers), architecture,
gastronomy, culture and ethnicity.
You will admire the typical Bresse region low farmhouses with their
wooden and brick sides, its churches, its windmills and its villages
and the different architecture of its castles.

The town
of LOUHANS
Classified as “The most beautiful detour in France”, Louhans offers the
charms of a small
town filled with history and situated on the banks of the river Seille.
There is the Bresse
region poultry market every Monday
morning. It is a place that the
locals do not want to miss
as it is where producers and buyers meet. The market will captivate you
by its size and its authenticity: it is the fourth biggest agricultural
market in France and it is classified as “a place of remarkable
gastronomy”. La Grande rue has 157 arches which are 400
metres long. The walls of houses date back to the 15th
century, the church of Saint Pierre with its roof of polychrome tiles,
the House of Bailli, the towers of Saint Pierre and Saint Paul,
the old streets and courtyards are worth visiting either as a guided
tour or independently by following the signs (maps are available at the
Office du Tourisme of Louhans-Tel: 03 85 75 05 02).

Hôtel-Dieu and its apothecary is the town’s jewel (Rue du
capitaine Vic.-Tel: 03 85 75 54 32).

A newspaper workshop:
The machines of the newspaper “l’Indépendant” are still well preserved,
and reconstruct the atmosphere of this lead printing workshop. (29
